Effective August 1, 2021, overage fees are charged when your inventory in Amazon fulfillment centers exceeds your storage limit during any day of the month. These are in addition to monthly inventory storage fees and, if applicable, long-term storage fees. We strongly encourage you to avoid the overage fees by taking action to lower your inventory and remain within your storage limit.
If you have a Professional selling account in Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, or France, overage fees apply if you have exceeded your current volume limits for a given storage type by the end of the day for any day in a given month. This charge will occur even if your inventory was subsequently reduced below your storage limits allocated for that month. Refer to the overage fee calculation example for more details.
The overage fee is based on how many days your storage limits are exceeded. It will be charged monthly at €320 per cubic meter (excluding taxes) based on the daily average volume (measured in cubic meters) for any space your inventory occupies in Amazon fulfillment centers beyond your storage limits.
The volume measurement is based on unit size when properly packaged and ready to ship in accordance with FBA policies and requirements. Amazon reserves the right to measure or weigh packaged units or representative samples and to determine the storage type. In the event of any conflict between an Amazon measurement and information provided by the seller, Amazon's measurement will govern.
The following example illustrates how the overage fee is assessed and charged (all the fees below exclude taxes):
Event (with dates) | Sample values | |
---|---|---|
Seller’s inventory exceeds their volume limit on August 1 | ||
Inventory Performance Index | 280 | |
Original standard-size storage limit | 33.6 cubic meters | |
New standard-size storage limit | 28 cubic meters | |
Inventory storage overage fee accrues (August 1) | ||
The seller’s inventory currently exceeds their standard-size storage limit by 2.8 cubic meters. An overage fee of €320 per cubic meter, or €896 total, will be incurred if no action is taken. (The overage fee will be assessed and charged in September.) | Standard-size storage limit | 28 cubic meters |
Space taken by existing standard-size inventory | 30.8 cubic meters | |
Current standard-size overage | 2.8 cubic meters | |
Potential overage fee: | €896 | |
Seller reduces inventory exceeding limit (August 5) | ||
The seller creates a removal order for 2.2 cubic meters of standard-size inventory on August 5. No other standard-size inventory is sold or removed during August. |
Standard-size overage, August 1 – 4 |
2.8 cubic meters |
Standard-size removal, August 5 |
2.2 cubic meters | |
Standard-size overage, August 5 – 31 |
0.6 cubic meters | |
Inventory storage overage fee billed (September 5) | ||
The seller’s average overage for the month was 0.88 cubic meters. They will be charged €320 per cubic meter for an August total of €282. | August average standard-size overage | 0.88 cubic meter |
Storage overage fee per cubic meter | €320 | |
Total August storage overage fee | €282 |
In the example above, if the seller does not remove or sell through their inventory that exceeds the standard-size limit by September 1, they will begin accruing storage overage fees for September.
Current usage is a real-time representation of your on-hand inventory minus any pending removals. Manage Inventory Health provides a list of all of your active FBA listings, along with their storage type (standard-size, oversize, apparel, footwear, flammable, or aerosol) and how much volume the ASIN is taking up (available units x volume per unit = cubic feet).
While using Manage Inventory Health is a good way to approximate current usage, it may not match your current usage value shown on the storage monitor on the Inventory Performance dashboard. Storage volume in the Inventory Age report and on the Manage Inventory Health page equals the available inventory. The current usage by storage type that is shown on your storage volume monitor equals the available inventory plus unfulfillable and reserved units minus units that are pending removal or liquidation.
The Inventory storage overage fees report provides the inventory storage overage fees for each storage type and day your inventory in Amazon fulfillment centers exceeded your storage limits. This month-end report is available for download starting the second day of the following month.

You will be charged applicable storage overage fees after the end of the month in which the fees were incurred. For example, let’s say that you exceeded your storage limit on August 1 and removed inventory to a level below your limit by August 5. On September 1, you would be charged for the four days that you were over the limit in August.
Inventory for which you created a removal order will not be subject to an overage fee, even if the removal is paused or delayed.
You receive one daily storage limit that applies across the Netherlands Spain, Italy, France, and Germany marketplaces. For example, if your storage limit is 968 cubic meters for standard-size items (sortable), this represents your storage type limit for all five marketplaces combined. If the total storage type usage for a given day exceeds the network-wide storage type limit, you will be charged an overage fee for the inventory usage that exceeds your storage limit.
In the example below, the seller has standard-size (sortable) on-hand inventory in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, and Germany, with a daily storage limit of 968 cubic meters.

If your existing inventory exceeds your storage limits for a given month, you will be charged an inventory storage overage fee. Storage limits are calculated based on available fulfillment center capacity, historical IPI scores, and your sales volume. For more information about how storage limits are determined, go to FBA inventory storage limits.
Excess (overstock), inventory is calculated based on a different set of rules. To learn more about excess inventory, go to Manage Excess Inventory. If you are over your storage volume limits but you do not have excess inventory, we suggest you reduce or remove your oldest or slowest moving inventory as soon as possible.
For information on how excess inventory is calculated, go to the Inventory performance Help page.
